Review: Revan

Revan

It has been a while since I read a Star Wars book, having taken a break after finished Vision of the Future and not really enjoying it. I usually read Star Wars book sequentially and have avoided anything prior to the Han Solo trilogy as I do not have an interest in reading about the Clone Wars. However, I thoroughly enjoyed Knights of the Old Republic, somewhat liked its sequel, and am a fan of The Old Republic MMO. Having said that, I saw this book at my library and decided to give it a shot. Not great, but still enjoyable.

Many people are giving Drew Karpyshyn, the author, a lot of flak for how he handled Revan’s story and the companions he had in KotoR. For what the book was, without having any type of expectations, I think this is an adequate account of what happened to Revan, though ultimately unsatisfying. While the book is far from great, I enjoyed it for what it was. Nearly every Star Wars book I have read covers the Rebellion and New Republic eras, so moving into an Old Republic era book was refreshing. A confrontation near the book’s end felt rushed and almost uneventful. Stuff happened, people fought, but the showdown left much to be desired and lacked creativity.

Like I noted above, it is not a great book, but I did enjoy it. I never read any of Drew Karpyshyn’s previous works, but after reading Revan, I am looking forward to reading his other novels.
